Tough weekend at Rally Tennessee

Well, we had a difficult weekend at Rally Tennessee. We have been competitive for the last year on the loose surface rallies and did well last year on the tarmac rallies. Now we need to step up our game on the pavement for the future. We ran a better rally from driver/codriver performance and car set up was on the money, but the lack of power really showed itself. Morris Motorsports did an excellent job of preparation. Brad’s driving was right where it needed to be, and I don’t think we left much time on the table from a driving crew standpoint.

We have been running a 2.4 Mivec 4 cylinder engine that puts out about 150 horsepower. Even though it is a 2.4 Liter engine the class multipliers put this in the big engine class due the variable valve train technology. What this means in reality is we need a turbo to really be competitive with the other cars in the class. SRT4 and other cars with turbos are the true players in our class with closer to 300 horse power.

The next few rallies are all loose surface so the playing field should be back to level again. We may need to look at the power plant before the next tarmac rally.

In the end it may all be a moot point as we had a shock fail, which put us in a ditch and out of the rally. On with the repairs and on to the next rally. Congratulations to Doug Shepard and Karen Wagner for their overall win in a two wheel drive car, with the Wimpey brothers Josh and Jeremy in a close second in their A2 Golf GTI. Third place was Evan Moen and Billy Elliot Mann in their supercharged Integra Type R.

Mexican 1000 Starts Today

Official events start off today in Mexicali with contingency and tech inspection. Follow along with the progress of the rally at the web site Mexican1000.com I will try to post pictures and updates as I can get internet access. The race starts in Mexicali with a ceremonial start on Thursday morning and ends in La Paz on Saturday afternoon. Many historic off road vehicles and drivers are signed up to run this inaugural event.

Next few weeks are going to be busy for Streetwise

The next few weeks are full of events and we won’t have any time to stand still. This week starts off with the Mexican 1000, a stage type rally for historic off road vehicles. This travels from Mexicali to La Paz in the Baja Peninsula. We are headed south to support the Dirt Sports Elf (which we originally helped to build) in it’s newly upgraded configuration. The car has a new 2.0 liter engine along with upgraded steering, suspension and gearbox.

Only a few days after returning from Mexico we are headed off to the Plan B rally in Indio, California. This rally is a club rally organized under Rally America sanctioning and we are supporting the event as tech inspector, and course closing and sweep. Hopefully, sweep will be a boring job and we can just enjoy driving the roads.

After a quick road trip to Arizona to pick up the next rally car project (Stay tuned for further details on this one!) it is off to Tennessee for the NASA sanctioned Atlantic Rally Championship round Rally Tennessee over memorial day weekend. As part of the Morris Motorsports group we are the defending 2wd winners from last year. Several tough competitors are registered for this years race and it looks as though first place will be tougher to hang on to. We are constantly improving our teamwork and the car is in the best shape it has ever been so we are ready to take on all comers in 2wd. Who knows we might even take on a few of the 4wd cars as well. Rally Tennessee is one of the few all tarmac rallies in the US so it always poses a little different challenge for the rally regulars.

The weekend following Tennessee we are off to Reno/Sparks for the North Nevada Rally. We are headed out to support our two California teams Pikasports with their PGT Subaru GD and 365rally with their Open class Subaru GC.

SFI Decertifies Impact Racing Products

As of April 27, 2010 Impact Racing products will no longer be certified by the SFI. This change means that not only will new products not be SFI certified, but existing products certification is no longer valid. How this affects you – any Impact Racing gear you have will no longer be SFI certified, which may be an issue if your sanctioning body requires this. California Rally Series starts off 2010 Season next weekend with Desert Storm Rally

Next weekend March 12-14 the California Rally series starts off the 2010 series with the Desert Storm Rally based in Blythe, California. The two day event is scheduled to include over 70 stage miles on Saturday with another 41 stage miles on Sunday. Saturday stages include a super special at the Palo Verde College in Blythe as well as a stage under the lights on Saturday night at the I-10 Speedway. The Rally kicks off on Friday night by having Tech inspection and Parc Ferme at the annual Blythe Volunteer Spaghetti Dinner starting at 4:00 PM.
Streetwise is happy to be supporting the event with worker volunteers and supporting the entry of Nick Taylor and RJ Olchawa in the 365rally.com entry.
This event counts in the California Rally Series championship as a coefficient 3 rally on Saturday and a coefficient 2 rally on Sunday. A banquet and awards ceremony will follow the rally on Sunday at the college.

California Rally Series announces schedule for 2010

The California Rally Series is celebrating its 35th year this year, and has announced a strong schedule for competitors. The season starts off with Desert Storm Rally headquartered in Blythe, California the weekend of March 12-14.
The series then heads to High Desert Trails in Ridgecrest, California for a one day event on April 17.
After a three week break it is back to the desert east of Indio, California for the Plan B rally, another one day event on May 8.
One month later it is up to the Reno, Nevada area for the North Nevada Rally the weekend of June 4-5.
Five weeks later, the weekend of July 16-18, the series heads as far north as Idaho for the Idaho Rally.
Gorman Rally, based out of Frazier Park, Califorina takes place on August 28, and is the closest rally to the Los Angeles area, only an hour north on the Grapevine.
October 1-2 the rally series heads off to Prescott, Arizona for a combined event that also sees it as the final round of the United States Rally Championship.
The CRS series wraps up its championship with Seed 9 Rally, based in Goodsprings, Nevada on November 6, 2010.
The schedule promises to be a challenging collection of events and the winners for 2010 will have certainly earned their finishing positions in the championship.

California Rally Series Banquet closes out 2009 season

Close to 100 ralliests and their guest gathered in Sante Fe Springs, CA last night to honor and celebrate the 2009 California Rally Series Championships. The rally series held their final event of 2009 in the beginning of December and now has officially celebrated the winners and competitors for 2009. It was a great party and the high light of the evening was the celebration of CRS starting their 35th year! Several of the founders were on had to recount the beginnings of rally in California and the US. It was truly amazing to compare the level of safety and performance of cars between 35 years ago and today. The night also included the regular banquet agenda with awards for all of the rally and rallycross classes.

The 2010 season starts off in just 6 weeks with Desert Storm Rally. The complete 2010 schedule can be found on the California Rally Series website.

California Rally Series Recognizes 2009 Champions

On January 23, 2010 the California Rally Series will have their annual banquet to honor the 2009 Season Champions. The ceremony, or more accurately party, will be held at Maggie’s Pub in Santa Fe Springs, CA. The series awards championships for drivers and co-drivers in five rally car classes, two Rallymoto ™ classes, as well as six rallycross classes. The banquet is open to any wishing to attend, you do not need to be a member, and is a great way to meet others interested in Rally and Rallymoto. RSVP is required and directions and other information can be found at californiarallyseries.com.
