Business veteran takes the helm and navigates course for more fan and sponsor opportunities in the 2012 National Championship Series

Golden Valley, MN, September 22, 2011 – Rally America, Inc., the premier sanctioning and Rally promotion organization in the United States, announced today the seamless transition of ownership to Vermont business professional, Bill Fogg. Fogg has twenty-five years of entrepreneurial success in distribution, manufacturing, software development, telecommunications and marketing. Fogg is also a founding partner in a business development company that invests in a number of technology start-up businesses.

Managing Director, J. B. Niday, will continue in his long-standing role along with Mike Hurst, Rally America’s Competition Director, Paul Giblin, Rally America’s Director of Business Development, and Ananda Siverts, the organization’s Marketing Director. The Rally America staff, new and old, is also quick to acknowledge the founder of Rally America, Doug Havir, for his many contributions to the development of the Rally America National Championship Series.

“First, I want to express my appreciation to Doug Havir for establishing and building Rally America,” said J.B. Niday, “Bill Fogg and his team bring great, new talents and resources to Rally America, as well as fresh ideas and perspectives.”

Fogg has been working with Rally America personnel as well as professionals from other companies to assist in planning for the expansion of Rally America’s reach into homes around the globe. “I want to expose as many people as possible to Rally and turn them into rabid fans,” said Fogg, “Rally America is in a unique position to put Rally and Rallycross in front of the mainstream public.” Fogg believes that Rally America’s future success will be built on the vision and depth of its management team and a history of producing safe and exciting Rally events.

As part of that vision, social networking, live streaming, and online video channel development will be enhanced or launched during the 2012 season. “I have spoken with top performers in the sport, team owners, sponsors and manufacturers, and they all agree that now is the time to bring Rally and Rallycross to the masses,” Fogg said.

Fogg first attended a rally three years ago with his sons Jon and Tom when long-time friend and Rally driver Chris Putzier suggested they give it a try. “We had no idea what to expect at the New England Forest Rally in 2009 but we had a great time, it was a wonderful family experience with the boys and an exciting introduction to the sport of Rally,” said Fogg. “I’m thrilled with the opportunity to put my years of business experience and entrepreneurial spirit to work for Rally America.”

The 2012 Rally America National Championship Series schedule has been created in partnership with local Rally event organizers. In the upcoming season, Rally America will make the series more accessible and build more excitement for fans, sponsors, drivers, and teams.

For 2012, the six Rally events will stretch from coast to coast and are scheduled to run through September. Rally America organizers have moved the Seattle, Washington-based Olympus Rally to September from April and have pushed back the Portland, Oregon-based Oregon Trail Rally by a few weeks to allow more time between it and the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally in Wellsboro, PA in early June. This new National Championship schedule for 2012 accomplishes two goals. First, it extends the Rally season into the fall, and secondly, it eliminates the compacting of half the Championship into less than two months. Rally America is in the process of evaluating the addition of a seventh National Championship Series event in 2013.

The 2012 Rally America National Championship Series dates and locations are as follows:

The United States Rally Championship announces the presentation of their 2011 Championship Regulations. The regulations for this season include new incentives for competitors to make the Championship more accessible, inclusive, and affordable. This is the seventh season for the USRC and it continues to innovate and bring new ideas to rally competition.

The USRC has always appreciated the time and investment required for teams to compete for a national championship. Sadly, many championship point formulas favor teams that can invest a huge amount of both time and capital. That is why the USRC has designed a structure and events that allow more teams the opportunity to compete at a national level. This season, competitors are allowed to count one out of Division event towards their championship points total. This way a team that misses an event in their local Division due to a schedule conflict or suffers from a poor finish can attempt to better their position by attending events outside their home Division.

In a bold move to encourage more head-to-head competition while holding down the costs to teams, the USRC is providing some added incentives. This season, teams competing outside their home division will be given a free entry to any out of Division event they enter. These incentives also include the final round of the Championship that is being held in the Atlantic Division at the International Rally New York in October.

The 2011 United States Rally Championship is comprised of five events with three rallies in the Pacific Division and two in the Atlantic Division. Rally New York USA, on March 25 and 26, offers competitors their first chance to score valuable USRC championship points. This all-tarmac event will challenge competitors on 100 stage miles of paved surfaces. The event is headquartered in Walton and Monticello, New York.

The Championship then heads out West for Rally Idaho, June 18-19 followed by the Gorman Ridge Rally on August 26-27 in California. The last event for the Pacific Division is the Prescott Rally in Arizona on September 30–October 1 before moving back east for the final round at International Rally New York on October 22-23.

Additional event information is available at www.USRallyChampionship.com

Anaheim Hills, CA (January 29, 2010) – Katianna Pihakari received the Galal Souki Memorial Award for 2010. Awarded annually by the California Rally Series (CRS), the Galal Souki award recognizes competitors of the CRS GT and Performance Stock Class who typify the spirit of helpfulness among the competitors in his/her class. The first recipients of this award were Bruce Davis and Mike Neff in 1980.

“It is a great honor to receive the Galal Souki Memorial Award,” commented Pihakari at the CRS awards banquet on January 22, 2010. “This award is given for our helpfulness and enthusiasm. Although I am the recipient of the award, I believe it is the attitude of our whole PikaSports team that has been noticed. Every member of our team wants everyone in the race to do well. It might sound contradictory to wish that your competitors do well, but for the PikaSports team members it is more important to have a great time with the sport and provide everyone with the best chance they can have in the race. In the end, this is our hobby and we do it for the fun of it.”

PikaSports’ vehicle of choice is a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX built and prepared by Streetwise Motorsports (www.streetwiseparts.com). Lights are provided by AnzoUSA (www.anzousa.com). Photos by Bill Rogers, Motorsports Memories and CastleIsland Photography.

Close to 100 ralliests and their guest gathered in Sante Fe Springs, CA last night to honor and celebrate the 2009 California Rally Series Championships. The rally series held their final event of 2009 in the beginning of December and now has officially celebrated the winners and competitors for 2009. It was a great party and the high light of the evening was the celebration of CRS starting their 35th year! Several of the founders were on had to recount the beginnings of rally in California and the US. It was truly amazing to compare the level of safety and performance of cars between 35 years ago and today. The night also included the regular banquet agenda with awards for all of the rally and rallycross classes.

The 2010 season starts off in just 6 weeks with Desert Storm Rally. The complete 2010 schedule can be found on the California Rally Series website.
See you all at the races in 2010
